KITTENS HITCH A RIDE WITH D.O.T. WORKERS TO THE UPPER WEST SIDE

Two insanely cute newborn kittens hitched a ride from Staten Island to the Upper West Side Thursday morning. Department of Transportation employees working on a redesign of Lincoln Square said they found the kittens camped out in the back of their truck. Their mother was nowhere to be found.

The three workers — Jerry, Steve and Rob — said one of the kittens was injured.

“We took them on a field trip to Lincoln Center.”

While we were chatting, a woman named Nina from Washington Heights came up, and one of the workers handed a kitten to her. She ended up taking both of them home. “I will give them milk.”

By the way, here are the details on the redesign of Lincoln Square on Broadway and Columbus from 66th to 63rd street.

Very nice idea and intentions BUT giving those young kittens to some stranger… who only knows to give them milk is all wrong. kittens don’t need milk.. they need special milk that needs to be bought from a pet store or vet. Also, one kitten is injured.. do we know that the woman will bring them to the vet to get fixed? what about getting the two kittens spayed/ neutered so they don’t end up having unwanted and endless litters? what about if they are going to a home with other animals? are they indoor cats or will be outside? as nice as this was.. it doesn’t seem as if they did the smartest thing by giving the kittens to some random person off the street

@ Shari — Is it better then just letting them go free walking around the streets? maybe you should be thankful and not critical.

no.. I have a strong feeling that the workers would have probably ended up doing the right thing by bringing the kittens to either a police station or vet office (and not let them fend for themselves on the street) if that woman didn’t come up to them. I don’t think they are that heartless. Like I said.. I am sure they all had good intentions but giving kittens that still need mothers milk (or specially made for kitten formula)to a complete stranger is worrying to me – as nice as she looks.

Shari is right, in my opinion. They should have at least gotten her phone number to follow up with a vet or something….

Thrilled they’re out of danger in the back of a truck, I’m sure their mom will be searching for them. But I do wish they’ve gotten some kind of promise that the new owner will get them both to a vet, checked-out for worms, feline leukemia, etc and get their shots and be neutered. And also perhaps some good advice on what to feed kittens. But – I guess it’s all good.

Would you consider auditioning for the “Debbie Downer” role in next season’s SNL?

I’m sure the kittens will survive and be fine, and if they are given milk, the fact that it will probably make them throw up will prompt the good samaritan to stop doing that.

Things have a way of working out even if you can’t control them.

I, for one, will enjoy a brief moment of peace thinking about these people’s kind hearts and the cute kittens.

Wow, at least they did not go into the shelter system and end up on the nightly “list”.

Way to crush the positive vibes. Count it as a win. And those DOT guys should be commended, as should the new cat mom. Learn to stifle the whine.

Is the woman in the picture the one who took the kittens? I really hope the injured kitten gets medical care.

No worries everyone, she took them to the vet to get treated. The kittens stayed at the vet for a few weeks to get treatment, and are all better now!
