Oscar Jiggetts, a 55-year-old man, was arrested in Harlem on Tuesday and charged with robbing a 26-year-old woman in Central Park near the Great Hill last Wednesday.

The woman had gone to the area seeking to relax in a secluded spot. She said her attacker continued punching her in the face after she was down.

Six teens also tried to rob a 77-year-old man in the same area, around 101st street on the West side of the park.

Jiggetts has more than a dozen previous arrests, according to reports.

Right? If Rudy were still around, this guy would have been arrested within seconds of committing the crime! You know, because mayors are the best crime stoppers!

Great job by the NYPD here! A man by the same name and description is on Facebook and is a self proclaimed “OG” (Original Gangsta) for those those who aren’t familiar with this kind of thing.

Looks like OG now has 13 arrests. This scum belongs off the streets. Put him to work the for the state for life, cleaning up roads. This “man” doesn’t contribute anything to society besides violence and crime.

Agreed, excellent work by the NYPD, showing that they are still more than capable of doing real police work. Sad thing, if you look at Jiggetts’ FB page, is that it looks like he was trying to get his life straight after prison… and now it’s pretty clear he’s going straight back for a parole violation. Dummy.

I thought the same thing, yet calling yourself OG doesn’t exactly paint a warm, fuzzy picture of his current mindset. He didn’t say “Former OG” or something similar. Maybe he tried to walk the straight and narrow and realized it wasn’t for him.

We need a “3 Strikes” law. A predatory animal like Oscar Jiggetts (OJ!) doesn’t have the ability to live his life in a civilized manner. And when he’s not behind bars, he is a deadly threat to everyone who does. Who knows how many crimes he’s committed beyond those 13 he’s been arrested for? Our system needs to change. There is no reason for any career criminals like Oscar Jiggetts to be roaming the streets looking for his next victim.

Wishing the young woman who he beat up a full recovery and I hope she doesn’t give up on our City.

Sorry, 3-Strikes Doesn’t Work:

RIVERSIDE, Calif. — Contrary to what police, politicians and the public believe about the effectiveness of California’s three-strikes law, research by a University of California, Riverside criminologist has found that the get-tough-on-criminals policy voters approved in 1994 has done nothing to reduce the crime rate.
In a rigorous analysis of crime in California and the nation, sociology professor Robert Nash Parker determined that crime has been decreasing at about the same rate in every state for 20 years, regardless of whether three-strikes policies are in place or not.

Siddhartha,

While it’s open for debate whether or not 3-Strikes has an overall effect on the crime rate, one thing is for sure (as Lisa noted in her comment. Had a 3 Strikes-type law been in place, Oscar Jiggetts would have been behind bars while this young woman was trying to enjoy her peaceful morning in Central Park. In addition, he also would not have free to commit at least 10 other previous crimes. That’s good enough for me, and I’m sure that this young woman and anyone else that suffered at his hands would agree.

And yet if there were a 3 strikes law, it would have made all the difference in the world for this young woman. I’m not saying a 3-strike law is the answer, but violent career criminals like this should not be on the streets. The fact that he continued to punch her even after she was down shows significant moral depravity and lack of humanity. And yet they’ll probably release him again.

Crime in this country is overwhelmingly black on white (as well as black on black), despite the liberal media’s chosen narrative that black people are being hunted down in the streets by whites. Disagree? Prove this isn’t true with crime statistics. Oh, I guess you can’t. Incidentally, this same liberal “narrative” is what is now tying the hands of police in getting criminals off the streets. We sit idly by as crime increases in NYC and liberals make their excuses.

@doodie – you’ve actually NEVER posted here (with the alias of “Nukleopatra”) which a simple google search will prove. So first off – you’re lying.

Second – you’re so confused you think your simplistic racist language doesn’t stick out like a sore thumb. There are plenty of conservative voices in these comments, just none with the expressive style of an 8-year old.

You’re just pathetic. After I replied to you with the guidelines for posting comments, you now go underground. Get a life. Man up and own your own racist rhetoric.

And then read this link, Mr. Sockpuppet. What you’re doing is not new, but you’re probably patting yourself on the back for being so clever and using alternate aliases. You can also be tracked with your IP address so let’s see if you know how to get around that.

Still not whoever you think I am. Anyway, I am not a racist. I am talking about “inconvenient truths” that we, as a society, need to stop ignoring and falling over ourselves to excuse, and address without fearing the ubiquitous cry of “racism.” If anyone here has the tone and maturity level of an 8 year old, it’s you. Oh and I should add, I am a minority myself.

for the sake of hypothetical argument, imagine that most crimes in the U.S. are committed by people who are left-handed. Note – you didn’t provide any sources to back up your criminology claims. I’m just throwing out a thought experiment here.

So what? Do you demonize them all? Why? What effect does that have? Smugly chortle when a left-handed person is arrested? Tell people who ask you not to stereotype based on physical traits, that they’re ‘mindlessly’ buying into a liberal narrative?

Also, can you provide any source that’s not paid by Fox News that will argue Fox News is unbiased?

I’m not saying Fox News isn’t biased. I’m saying so are the countless liberal media outlets (as in, all of the other major networks and then some). Calling out Fox as “biased” is the pot (more like pots, plural, really) calling the kettle black.

Think beyond street crime, though. There is cybercrime and white collar crime. Is there a big difference between a pickpocket and an employee who pads his/her expenses? There is the lawyered-up “respectable citizen” who cheats on his/her taxes; that increases the tax burden for others and diminishes funds for services. There are physicians who knowingly perform unnecessary surgery and procedures, and prescribe dangerous and risky drugs. There are drug-traffickers and smugglers of all types; there is organized crime.

To, unfortunately, escalate to the despicable, there is enslavement of every type; there are human traffickers, the sex trade, child abusers, kidnappers, and illegal extraction and sellers of human organs.

It’s too painful to go on.

I rarely post here, but often read. So, I’m not whoever you think I am. My observations are made as a realist who doesn’t mindlessly subscribe to the liberal narrative, a narrative that doesn’t want anyone to point out these actual “inconvenient truths” that liberals selectively ignore. It’s uncomfortable to face these facts, but they are out there. When frank discussions are attempted about these “inconvenient truths,” anyone who doesn’t subscribe to the liberal narrative is shouted down, called a racist, what have you. Thus the truth can never be confronted or addressed, and nothing will ever change. And, by the way, “Faux News” is far from perfect, but it’s also one of the only networks in this country that doesn’t champion the liberal narrative. How many other networks champion it? I could count at least ten others. So please stop pretending “Faux News” is some kind of biased outlet when it’s clear to anyone with three brain cells to rub together that the bias coming from the other side is crushing.

“Starting from the 1970s, studies in the US pointed more and more at the link between unemployment, poverty and crime. After that other connections with income level, time spent at school, quality of neighborhood and education were revealed as well. Fresh research from the UK even indicates that economic cycles may affect variations in property and violent crimes.

But most importantly, what reveals the unmistakable connection between poverty and crime is that they’re both geographically concentrated – in a strikingly consistent way. In other words, where you find poverty is also where you find crime.”

@DR – There are many reasons, but you could summarize them as “institutionalized racism”.

Here’s a place to start:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Institutional_racism

“In the National Housing Act of 1939, the property appraisal system tied property value and eligibility for government loans to race. The 1936 Underwriting Manual used by the Federal Housing Administration to guide residential mortgages gave 20% weight to a neighborhood’s protection, for example, zoning ordinances, deed restrictions, high speed traffic arteries, from adverse influences, such as infiltration of inharmonious racial groups. Thus, white-majority neighborhoods received the government’s highest property value ratings, and white people were eligible for government loans. Between 1934 and 1962, less than 2 percent of government-subsidized housing went to non-white people.”

This is just scratching the surface.

Or… you could just believe that minorities are inherently bad people. That’s much less complicated.

I do not care what color this guy is. If he is guilty he needs to be taken off the streets for a good long time. Seems like he has had many second chances with prior convictions to “turn his life” and he has decided to continue a one man crime spree. Black on white, black on black, white on white, white on black, who cares. Violent predators need to be taken off the streets, period…
