A reader took in a dog that she had found on West 89th street on Tuesday and we’re hoping to find the owner. If you know who owns the dog, please contact us at westsiderag at gmail dot com.
Yes, those are good suggestions, especially checking for microchip. But not Craigslist. Also posting the picture on this site is great. I’ll spread the word…

Take the little one to a vet to see if he/she is microchipped.

I will post laminated signs at the 89th and 103rd dog runs later today…and yes never post lost dog notices on Craigs list. We recently adopted a dog who had been scooped up off of there, and used as a bait dog.

looks like a expensive breed…surprised nobody has put up flyers
Hi, I’m the one who found the dog! It seems to be sick and it’s almost blind. I really think the owner let him go.

There was a dog many months ago that was stolen and sold by a dog sitter. The flyers were up everywhere.
I don’t remember to dogs name, but I think it sort of looks like this puppy?
There is a website and on facebook. Lost dogs of New York. There are several different one to post the info and picture. I hope they find the owner.
I was also concerned that this was the dog who had been stolen recently. If so, the original owner may not realize that he’s still in the area or out on the street. Is he in someone’s home now and being cared for until the owner is located or notified? Any facility should be able to check his microchip for his info. Plz keep us posted!

Is it a teacup? I’ve seen a very similar dog that lives in the southwest corner building on 89th. Maybe check there?

It looks like a Boston Terrier. Keep us posted. I had my Boston Terrier microchipped so hopefully that will help – mine once ran out of Riverside Park but we were able to grab him quickly.

1) the dog run is IN Riverside park. Lori has a good idea by posting pictures there. There is also an animal rescue sit further north. I don’t know exactly where, but it is listed. When we lost our dog, they had him! Important: did he have a harness and lead? If so, he was apparently well cared for AND it is likely that he has a chip embedded in him – and any dog vet/shelter can access it.

The dog is a brindle (reddish) Boston Terrier. The ears have been docked which is done for many show dogs, but this dog has not been shown probably because of the color. Have you checked the local vets. Animal General (87th & Columbus), Symphony Vets on Amst. & 96th. The vet on Columbus & 95th. It appears that someone has spent a fair amount of money on this dog. You might also send a picture to the Animal Medical Center on the East Side. It’s a large facility and they could check their records. Lots of West Siders take their dogs their for medical care.
There are signs up at Broadway and 88th St. for this dog. Apparently that is where it got loose. The sign requests that whoever finds the dog to please call the 24th precinct.
Thanks for the update Susana. So sorry to hear that the poor dog is in such bad shape. It’s hard to tell from the photo (I thought it was a handmade sweater and not something that was torn). It’s possible they let a simple eye irritation turn into an infection and couldn’t afford to go to the vet. I think the Humane Society or ASPCA has programs to help with medical assistance. There is also a rescue groups specifically for Boston Terriers in NYC: https://bostonterrier.rescueme.org/NewYork.
Is this definitely a brindle and not a chocolate Boston? It’s hard to tell from the photo but most chocolate Bostons have those red eyes. I’m just wondering if he was running loose without a collar or tags, or if the leash and sweater were on him when he was found. He looks like he’s been well cared for.
I hope he’s been kept at someone’s home and not put into a shelter while they’re looking for his owner.
I don’t think it was stolen, actually I think it was abandoned, because it is in a very bad condition, sick and almost blind! Still looking for the owner!
Sadly, I suspect you are right about the dog being abandoned. Most Upper West Siders would have put posters all over the place by now. Just in case you can file a found dog report with NY Animal Care & Control. You may want to reach out to SNORT (Short nosed only rescue team) and/or Blind Dog Rescue Alliance for help placing the dog in a loving home if the owner does not appear.
Perhaps post on Craigslist as well? Lots of lost and found pets there….
NEVER post a lost pet on craisglist. It will end up as bait for dog fight training. I’ll post it on the doggie dish west 72nd dog run group.
post pictures as the 87th Street dog run – I believe I have seen that dog there. Perhaps someone will know him.
Perhaps bring to a local vet to see if it’s microchipped?

Thank you for your advise. I’ll ask those places. The dog seems to be sick, it’s shirt was broken, and it’s almost blind. I don’t think it has a chip at all, and smells very bad! https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10153300498244043&set=a.143567519042.108588.533119042&type=1&theater

Hi, the dog was clearly not well cared at all. The sweater was broken, the dog is sick and almost blind. Has red eyes because it crashes everywhere with his eyes. A neighbor has it until we find the owner!

stories like this make me lose faith more and more in the human race.
Was it the dog that was stolen? Have you located the owner?

This is a great organization that rescues Boston Terriers: https://bostonterrier.rescueme.org/NewYork
I lost my Boston Terrier last night around 88th and Broadway.
Dale, he’s black with a white stripe on his forehead and white belly. Black harness/red leash. Very friendly.
If anyone has any info please contact me.
I posted flyers in the area. Called local vets and went to the shelter. Any help is appreciated.
MY BOSTON WAS FOUND!!! Thank you for any help!!
