Our friends at the nonprofit Goddard Riverside Community Center are trying to spread the word about two fundraisers this weekend for Nepal following the deadly earthquakes there.

The Nepal Fundraiser on the UWS

Saturday, 2-5 p.m.  Nepal Cultural Event and Fundraiser: Aashraya in the Himalayas Photo exhibit and sale.

Sunday, 12 – 7:30 p.m. Nepal Cultural Event and Fundraiser: Aashraya in the Himalayas This is a Nepali cultural event to help raise money to build earthquake resilient homes for earthquake survivors in Nepal. Come hear stories, eat food, listen to music and contribute to a great cause. Photos, prints and souvenirs for sale and auction.

Location: Goddard Riverside The Bernie Wohl Center
647 Columbus Ave, New York, New York 10025

Nepal is a beautiful country nestled in the Himalayan mountains and full of strong, creative, and hardworking people. On April 25th, Nepal was hit hard by a 7.8 magnitude earthquake, and then hit again by another 7.3 magnitude earthquake on May 13th. These disasters have left more than 8,460 people dead, 6,271 injured, and more than 2.8 million people homeless.

While these figures are staggering, there is hope that we can help rebuild this great nation and give back to a country that has so much to offer. A fundraiser is planned for Sunday, May 31 from 1-7pm. There will be a silent auction of photos and souvenir, Nepali food, Nepali music, refreshments, a dinner, a candlelight vigil, a brief presentation on Nepali culture, and a personal story telling – finding a bridge between the two homes during crisis.

Through this fundraising event we will raise money to be sent to an engineering group named Aashraya which builds low-cost, earthquake-proof housing in Nepal. With monsoon season less than a month away, it is critical that the homeless find shelter before even more tragedy occurs. More info: https://www.facebook.com/reliefshelter

Come see how amazing Nepal is and show your support!
