TREATS OF MANY SIZES AT NEW TINY TREATS CAFE

tiny treats cafe

Georgia & Aliou’s Tiny Treats Cafe, a new bakery and cafe run by the former owner of Georgia’s restaurant and a pastry chef, opened on Thursday on Amsterdam Avenue just South of 90th street. The cafe has a few chairs and tables toward the front, but the real action goes on in back where there’s a large and bustling bakery churning out pastries and fresh-baked breads.

The bakery has a full selection of home-made breads, including some of the best baguettes I’ve had in the neighborhood. There’s also breakfast food and fancy-looking pastries. (Haven’t tried the coffee, but let us know if you have.) With highly touted Maison Kayser set to open in the former home of Fratelli La Bufala on 76th and Broadway, no one will have to walk far to get their daily loaf (there are also a lot of really good existing bakeries in the neighborhood, of course).

We still miss Georgia’s, so I’m glad they’re back!

A “bakery breakdown” would be a great West Side Rag feature. X does mostly cookies, Y is good for croissants, Z is famous for muffins but did you know about their challah, etc.

That would be great. I’d love to know where to get a simple NON-grocery store cake or pie without hiking up to Silver Moon.

Great idea, Michael. I think we should crowd-source something like that.

Went on Saturday — they have the yummy coffee eclairs that they used to have when they were on b’way. Prices seem comparable to what they were as well. I think the eclairs were $3.75 a pop….but they are “tiny” — so about half the size of the originals…but they come with a really nice piece of chocolate brittle on top.

I will now go find my eatin’ pants.

Isn’t that bakery worker’s hair a little long to be so uncovered in a food facility?

Hey, David! Leave the kid alone, she looks great! I’ve seen longer hair in other eateries, nobody seems to be dying. I guess everybody’s gotta complain about SOMETHING!

As an Italian, I must say the bread is unusually good for the US.

Purchased an apricot/pistachio tart yesterday for a dinner I was invited to. It was delicious! Excellent $14 for small tart.
