Two men have been choked and robbed in the past few days by a robber that police describe as a 6’5″ black man who has been seen wearing a hat like the one pictured above.

The robber is wanted in connection with two incidents that occurred in Central Park near the Loeb Boathouse around 74th street this week, according to A Walk in the Park and other media outlets:

1:  On Monday, August 18, 2014 at approximately 0005 hours, the suspect approached the 47 year-old male victim from behind in the vicinity of 74 Street and East Drive and placed him into a chokehold. The suspect then brought the victim to the ground and removed his backpack, which contained $7 in cash, one (1) debit card, and two (2) credit cards.  The suspect then fled to parts unknown.

2:  On Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at approximately 0025 hours, the suspect engaged the 47 year-old male victim in conversation in the vicinity of 74 Street and the East Drive and placed him in a chokehold.  The suspect then brought the victim to the ground and removed his bag, which contained $140 in cash and a debit card.

If you know anything about these crimes, contact Crimestoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477). you can remain anonymous.

Central Park after midnight is not a good place to be walking around, never has been, never will be. They should catch this scumbag soon he can’t exactly blend in at 6-5.

90% scumbag, 10% stupidity for walking in an unattended part of the park at that hour.

Howard, how about people going into Central Park at night to attend the film fest: https://www.westsiderag.com/2014/08/18/central-park-outdoor-film-fest-starts-monday-check-out-the-lineup . Are they being “stupid” and inviting attack too? Until what time is it OK to go into the park according to you?

These movies start around 8pm, there is hired security and at least a few hundred people. Surely you understand these movie nights are much safer than walking alone on 74th and east drive at midnight.

That may be the most precise suspect drawing I have ever seen. If I were the Extremely Tall Mugger, I would consider framing it.

ANY black man, starting with those who are 6’3 and taller, better stay indoors.

and, g_d forbid, the drawing should be a good one, but look not like the perpetrator.

Nice try attempting to turn this into a racial issue when it is not. No one cares about the race of the perpetrator or the victims.

I hope we are not returning to the days where folks are actually blaming the victims for being at out late or walking in the wrong area.

I don’t think anyone on here has blamed the victim however making smart decisions will help reduce the probability of becoming a victim. It’s pretty common knowledge than nothing good happens in Central Park after midnight. It’s dark, very empty and there a lot of places to get yourself in trouble.

When someone says “90% scumbag, 10% stupidity”, that implies that it was partially the victims fault. People should be free to walk anywhere at any time without fear of being assaulted and robbed.

Again, in a perfect world! I f we were so civilized we would be mugging, stealing, killing, and having wars. So we really aren’t that civilized, it’s just they way we are as the human race. Unfortunately, but reality.

How much do you want to bet that the perpetrator is receiving government benefits and depending on NYC tax payers while simultaneously victimizing them? Or is he paying market-rate rent to live in Manhattan?

Regardless of whether or not the perpetrator receives any kind of government benefits, just out of curiosity, why are you assuming that the perpetrator lives in Manhattan?

So, what you’re saying is anyone who is not living in a market -rate apt is living off the government?
Or that people who are living in market-rate apartments are exempt from committing crime such as this?
If you think so, you are so sorely mistaken and would be better off not posting that comment at all.

I’ll bet you one month’s rent (market rate of course) that the perpetrator is living off the government.

… and of course you are also implying that he couldn’t possibly be homeless and living on the streets… no “govt benefits” there…

when you say “He is receiving government benefits”, are you implying he is the owner of a high end condo, receiving a large mortgage interest deduction? or perhaps that he is a hedge fund manager, receiving carried interest tax benefits?

certainly you couldn’t mean he lives in a rent-stabilized apartment, as there are no “government benefits” that I know of accorded to rent stabilized tenants. they are simply purchasing a price-regulated product… much as you do when you purchase electricity.

Sharpton and co. have succeeded in emasculating and intimidating the police to the point that they are becoming useless.(of course maybe not incidentally this gives the drug dealers the freedom to operate). It is the 1970s all over again. Muggins are making a come back in the park, and rats are running free everywhere in the park and on the side walks of 60th st. by the hundreds. Hundreds of rats in view of tourists and residents right across from the five stars Mandarin hotel. NYC is becoming hell on earth again, and there is nobody in charge.

Gee,I haven’t noticed New York changing that much since De Blasio became mayor (which is what you’re alluding to). I still like it here and feel pretty much the same. I didn’t walk in Central Park at night 5 years ago and I don’t do it today. Just my choice and own paranoia. But the only changes I notice are new stores replacing old ones, bike lanes everywhere, closing of Broadway to cars in many places and lots of tourists in midtown.

Black man using choke hold to rob people. Al Sharpton cops are not the only ones who use choke holds. I hope the victims could breathe during attacks.
