Central Park’s annual outdoor film festival starts on Monday with a classic flick beloved to anyone who spent their childhood wanting to grow up, and then realized that growing up is highly overrated: Big starring Tom Hanks.
The film series this year is meant to celebrate New York as a location for great movies.

Wednesday, August 20: The Way We Were 1973 (PG)
Thursday, August 21: Coming to America 1988 (R)

Gates open at 6:30 pm, movies begin at 8:00 pmFilms will screen rain or shine. A DJ will perform from 6:30 – 8:00 pm. The Film Festival is free.
All films are open captioned. Bring a picnic and a blanket.

I think this would be a better project if they’d focus on 1) films specifically about NYC and 2) offbeat films that are hard for the average person to see in a theater or stream on Netflix. Allow me to suggest one title: “Law and Disorder,” 1974.

I like all of these movies and most of us have seen them a few times but I agree with Scott maybe a more offbeat selection.
Great selection of films. If they had an extra day I would suggest “The Warriors”. Can you Dig It?
