Lidia Cuevas, who claims her apartment was infested with rats.
It’s the stuff of New York City nightmares.
Lidia Cuevas says she awoke one June morning in 2012 with a rat on her chest, leading her to leap out of bed and bash her knee. The 72-year-old, who needed surgery on her knee, is now suing her landlord at 249 West 109th street. The suit says rats were coming out of holes in the walls, the floors and the ceiling, and that the landlord did nothing to stop it, the Daily News reported.
The management, Beacon 109 245-251 LLC, took Cuevas to housing court, claiming she complained too much and the disrepair was her fault, Gothamist reported. But that complaint was dismissed by a judge.
We called landlord Harry Tawil for comment but never heard back.
Update: A spokesman for Beacon tells us: “It’s odd that this lawsuit, which has not been received by the owner, is being brought two years after the alleged incident. But in any event the building is regularly visited by an exterminator and there are no violations for infestation or anything else at this time. When and if it actually gets served, the company will respond in court.”
