Some of the hottest new restaurants on the Upper West Side want to open sidewalk cafes this spring, and a community board committee will be reviewing their applications on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The meeting takes place at the Community Board 7 offices, 250 West 87th Street.

In addition to Chinese restaurant RedFarm at 77th street and Broadway, the community board will consider sidewalk cafe permits for Cibo e Vino at 89th and Broadway, and the soon-to-open Polpette (Nicky Meatballs), which just opened at 84th and Amsterdam.

FYI Polpette/Nicky Meatballs is already open- think it opened early last week. Haven’t been yet but it looks great and has been pretty packed whenever I’ve walked by!

Anything to improve the desolate strip of Broadway from 86th to 96th. Bring on the sidewalk cafés.

Forgive me, but what’s with “Polpette/Nicky Meatballs”? Is there a dual name or something? Googling turns up a Polpette that closed a while back.

There was a restaurant called Polpette on Columbus in the Spring Natural Kitchen space a few years ago. The new Polpette is totally separate/different and I think technically called “Polpette by Nicky Meatballs” (affiliated with Bello Giardino on 71st, one of my favorite Italian spots)

Cibo E Vino at W89/Broadway has also applied for a new sidewalk cafe permit. The notices have been posted around the neighborhood recently. As I recall – they are petitioning for some 50+ seats along their tiny footprint. Seem like an awful lot.
