The owners of Park West, the short-lived restaurant at 103 West 70th street that closed a couple of weeks ago, have changed the restaurant’s name to Barrique and altered the menu.
They’re hoping to make the restaurant and bar a “neighborhood spot,” according to Eric, one of the owners. The other owner is Peter Coundouris of Pomodoro. Some locals had complained that Park West didn’t feel enough like a cozy local hang out, perhaps because the owners had tried to entice a more upscale date-night crowd.
The new menu is heavier on tapas like lamb meatballs and fried artichokes, and the restaurant now offers a charcuterie plate. It includes some of the same items, but with new prices — the fish tacos are now $10 instead of $12 for instance.
The name Barrique means rich bar, and it’s also the name for the barrels where wine is stored, Eric told us.
Check out the menu below, in our three slightly disjointed photographs.
Just went last night and the food here is excellent. Best paella I have had in a long time. And all the other tapas we tried were done well – fish tacos, empanadas, and the crostini. Good wine list. Reasonably priced. All in – a very nice experience.
