RedFarm, the popular new Chinese restaurant on 77th street and Broadway that has been lunch-only for about a month will finally open its doors after dark on Thursday.
The owners had wanted to get lunch service right before jumping into dinner — they were probably anticipating the hoards of Upper West Siders who feast like vampires on their pastrami egg rolls and soup dumplings. An Upper West Sider deprived of Chinese food is a scary sight, not to be witnessed after dark.
The place has gotten very good reviews already. Among other dishes, people are raving about the steak marinated for 24 hours in papaya. But one yelper warned diners to “manage your expectations: it is a place to get delicious Chinese food for white people and is in no way trying to be traditional nor authentic.” Some complain about high prices and long wait times for dumplings.
They don’t take reservations, but you can sit at the bar while you wait for your table. We’ve heard of wait times of around 30 minutes for lunch, but dinner could be longer.
We’ve been promised the dinner menu by Thursday. If we get it, we’ll post it here. The lunch menu is at the bottom of our previous post.
I’m white, I’ll bite.
Good food but pricey for what you get – two of us for lunch came to $85 w/o drinks. Worst part is their reservations system. You call the morning of and select a time but have to call when you are on the way there to confirm. Huh?
“…one yelper warned diners to “manage your expectations: it is a place to get delicious Chinese food for white people and is in no way trying to be traditional nor authentic.””
I certainly hope that yelper’s ‘for white people’ views are not shared by REDFARM management.

a Puerto Rican — & Black, to boot.
lighten up.
it was sarcasm
That Yelper’s comment is just very stupid shorthand for nontraditional fare – RedFarm’s chef is Joe Ng (not a white guy) and the co-owner Ed Schoenfeld (a white guy) is a devotee of Chinese food and most certainly not racist.
Signed, a white guy whose stepmom is 100% Chinese.
