There have been quite a few retail openings and closing in recent weeks. Thanks to everyone who sent in tips.

Banana Republic has opened the doors of its large new home at the corner of 86th street and Broadway. The spot was formerly a Gap store. The new store appeared to be having a 40%-off sale to kick things off. The Banana Republic across the street at 2360 Broadway closed.

Meehee NY Jewelry, a small jewelry shop with lots of great stuff on the South side of 72nd street between Columbus and Amsterdam, is closing after this week. Last time we checked, the jewelry was selling for 30% off.

Goodwill is opening a new store on the North side of 72nd street between Amsterdam and Columbus this week. “Housed in the commercial base of a landmark brownstone with neo-Greco ornamentation built at the turn of the 20th century, Goodwill’s 72nd Street boutique and donation center is located at 157 West 72nd Street, New York, NY 10023, between Amsterdam and Columbus Avenues. Hours are Monday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-8 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m.-7 p.m…Continuing in the tradition of our two downtown boutiques in Greenwich Village and Chelsea, the 4,000 sq. ft. 72nd Street boutique will offer stylish, quality clothing and small household items at affordable prices. Customers may become Goodwill Rewards Card members to receive additional discounts.

Card store Cardeology moved to 85th street and Amsterdam last month. Thanks to Ira for the tip.

NY Sport Trax and Shoes on Broadway and 99th street was liquidating its inventory as of last week, and appears to have already closed. The phone isn’t working. Thanks to Daren for the tip.

Berkley Girl, a teen girls’ clothing shop at Columbus and 80th street, has closed. “Thank you for 11 great years of business. It’s been a wonderful experience being a part of the Upper West Side community,” the store said on its website.

Women’s clothing store Variazioni at 69th and Columbus said it is closing “for renovations.”

I think the man hole outside the new Banana Republic still leads to ‘Gap For Kids’- You need to follow the rabbit with the time piece down, however….

Variazioni is closing for renovations. Right!
What will it morphed into in its next life. A bank or another Duane Reade?
