We are receiving preliminary information about a possible dead body found in the Hudson River North of 79th Street on Monday afternoon. The person is believed to be a “jumper” — people who jump off the George Washington Bridge sometimes end up coming ashore in the Hudson around the Upper West Side, although we don’t know the cause of death at this point.
Update: Police told us an unidentified man’s body was found in the river at about 4 p.m. close to 96th street.
The man’s body was apparently taken to the 79th Street boat basin.

Poor soul. Must have tried to buy an apartment for his family in the Upper West Side without having an MBA or a partnership at Dewey Cheatham & Howe (LLC).
Rest in peace, unknown remnant of the middle class.
Your comment is really not funny. This was my nephew and the family is deeply devastated by the whole event. This was a very loved young man who will be deeply missed.
I found him floating face up, eyes open off shore. Called 911. I feel so sad. He was identified and parents notifyed… Heart breaking. Looked to be about 35 years old.
It must be heart-breaking for you and that poor soul. If one only had the chance to give solace to prevent such a desperate act.
Saw the commotion and the body being brought ashore at the Boat Basin. Very sad. This happens much more often than the authorities want us to know, WSJ had a story on it about a year or two ago that is available online. Thank you West Side Rag for not giving in to the evident pressure on the media not to report these events. And RIP, my condolences to the family.
