The creepiest thing is that this is over my head right now and nothing is happening. No wind/rain/sound. twitter.com/jtes/status/24…

On Saturday evening around 5:30 p.m., a nasty storm approached Manhattan, along with a warning from the National Weather Service that a tornado could be on its way and to “Stay away from windows.”
The clouds darkened quickly, shrouding the city; rain began to fall. And then, almost as quickly, it stopped. Tornados did in fact touch down in Brooklyn and Queens and cause some damage, but there weren’t apparently reports of injuries and otherwise the city was spared hellfire and destruction.
Nonetheless, the event did produce some pretty fantastic photos. Check them out below. Thanks to everyone who sent them in.

We want our tornado!!! A government agency promised it! Obviously yet another screw-up by an over-funded federal agency and probably something else to blame on Obama. Somebody call Paul Ryan!!!
Anyway, guess we’re STILL “in Kansas.” B/t/w: has anyone seen Toto ???

Thank you all for sharing your photos. But there was something about the ominousness of that approaching storm that seems to defy representation through the static medium of the camera.
Wow!! Those are incredible photos. You don’t often think about the beauty of nature during a storm.
