WINE & ROSES HIT WITH EVICTION SUIT

Wine bar Wine & Roses on Columbus Avenue between 73rd and 74th Streets is being sued in civil court over $32,901.55 in rent that the landlord says the owners owe. The landlord is seeking to have the wine bar kicked out of the space, as well as force the owners to pay the back rent, according to court papers.

Jennifer Klein, an owner of the bar who has had a messy falling out with the people now running Wine & Roses, didn’t want to comment about the suit. She is no longer managing the business after being ousted a couple of years ago and has taken the owners to court in her own civil suit. Wine & Roses opened in 2006 and was a celebrity hotspot for awhile.

Klein is now opening a new spot, The Dakota Bar, on the corner of 72nd Street and Columbus that used to house Indian restaurant Earthen Oven. She says it will hopefully open in October.

A manager at Wine & Roses told us she had no comment about the eviction proceedings. There’s no reason to believe that the bar is in imminent danger of closing. It was also served eviction papers in 2011.

The majority owners said Klein was stealing from the biz and that they could run it better, so they kicked her out and ran it into the ground. How’s that crow pie taste?

Jennifer’s planning to open up the Col Ave part of the Dakota Bar facade as an unenclosed sidewalk cafe. the former City Grill has added 4 tables in an unenclosed space on col Ave next to their big enclosed space. CB 7 never met a sidewalk cafe application it didn’t like. With strollers, skateboards, wheelchairs and shopping carts, plan to spend 10 mins navigating between 72/73 Streets on East sidde of Col. All this improves quality of life? property values?

Hi Professor Malcontent:)) Mrs. Klein , who lives on the street will bring beauty to a corner that has been an eyesore to the neighborhood for years. Please check the Department of Consumer Affairs, there is no outdoor cafe applied for, so you will be able to navigate to your good hearts content.
