July 10, 2012 Weather: Partly Cloudy, High of 85 Degrees.

Notices:
Manhattanhenge returns this week! Manhattanhenge occurs “when the setting sun aligns precisely with the Manhattan street grid, creating a radiant glow of light across Manhattan’s brick and steel canyons, simultaneously illuminating both the north and south sides of every cross street of the borough’s grid,” as Natural History scientist Neil deGrasse Tyson puts it. It will occur on Wednesday at 8:24 and on Thursday at 8:25, according to the museum. On Wednesday, you can learn about it and watch it with Natural History Museum scientists. See some awesome pictures of Manhattanhenge here and here.

Register today (and only today) to go camping in Central Park on July 20.

Upper West Sider Vivian Ducat screens her movie All Me: The Life and Times of Winfred Remibert at the Maysles on 127th and Lenox Avenue on Wednesday. Tickets here. Q&A with Vivian and artist Winfred Rembert to follow the screening.

News:
A taxi and motorcycle crashed at 96th Street and Central Park West on Monday evening, leaving the biker with a bloodied face and otherwise unknown injuries. The motorcycle then dinged a camp bus, without causing injuries. A witness said the cab hit the motorcyclist, but the cab driver said the biker hit him. (DNAinfo)

A JPMorgan Chase banker at the 86th Street and Columbus branch is accused of ripping off customers to the tune of more than half a million dollars from January through June by passing account data from 14 customer accounts to accomplices. Fordin Francois, 25, faces numerous charges. (NY Post)

Our primary goal is to create a safe and respectful space where a broad spectrum of voices can be heard. We welcome diverse viewpoints and encourage readers to engage critically with one another’s ideas, but never at the expense of civility. Disagreement is expected—even encouraged—but it must be expressed with care and consideration. Comments that take cheap shots, escalate conflict, or veer into ideological warfare detract from the constructive spirit we aim to cultivate.
