The week is filled with great local events, including lots of free and cheap events in a continuing tribute to Gertrude Stein’s Paris at Symphony Space, and a free Lincoln Center performance of stories from teh Titanic on the 100th anniversary of the ship’s sinking.
News:
A judge issued an injunction preventing Jewish Home Lifecare from building a new 20-story nursing home on 97th Street. The Park West Village Tenants Association argued that the parking lot where the nursing home is supposed to be built is actually an amenity in their leases and it needs further approvals from the state to be taken away. Neighbors worry the new nursing home could seriously detract from their quality of life. Check out the many angry comments on our previous post on the issue. (Columbia Spectator)
Given that the stores on Columbus Avenue are now 100% rented out, it doesn’t look like the new bike lanes on the avenue killed commerce, as some had feared. (Streetsblog)
A procession on West 60th Street looked like a religious ceremony from above, but it turned out to be a much more mundane form of devotion. (NY Times)
