Columbus Avenue, which is gradually morphing into the Madison Avenue, is getting two new stores in the coming weeks.
Therapie, the gifts and cosmetics store on Columbus between 74th and 75th Streets, closed after a liquidation sale a couple of weeks ago, and the landlord has already signed a lease for a new tenant.
Chicago stationary and paper goods store Paper Source plans to open a new store in the old Therapie spot after signing a 10-year lease. The store will be 2,700 square feet, with a 2,000-square-foot basement, according to Crain’s.
In addition, construction has begun on a new store at the corner of 68th Street and Columbus, the longtime home of Great Farm deli. Workers there told me it’s going to be a woman’s clothing store, although they weren’t which one. Another source confirmed it’s going to be a clothing store.
And lastly, Leslie at DNAinfo reported that Swedish clothing store Älskling on 70th and Columbus didn’t close for good — the owner’s just taking a three month sabbatical. We reported the store’s closing, and the opening of a men’s pop-up shop, earlier this week.
