An extremely ugly apartment at celebrity-and-hedge-fund-manager-filled 15 Central Park West has finally sold for $6.5 million. The purple velvet headboard seemed to clash with the green sateen comforter. And it’s always a little dicomforting when electrical appliances are resting on the bathtub. Some observers speculated that the curious decor caused the apartment to sit on the market for three years. (Observer via Curbed)
The city will cut after-school programs that serve 27,000 kids in New York, and will be targeting programs in areas where there is a lower concentration of children who need the services. That hurts places like the Upper West Side, where there may be fewer overall people in poverty, but where there are still numerous housing projects and lots of parents who need after-school services for their kids. The city unemployment rate rose back to at 9% in December, worse than the rest of the country. Wasn’t Bloomberg reelected because he’s the business-savvy guy who could guide the local economy out of a recession? (WSJ)
