January 23, 2012 Weather: Rain, High of 56 Degrees.

Notices:
We have a couple of events for Monday up on our calendar, and will post a full week’s worth of events by the end of the day.

News:
A woman sustained head injuries on Sunday after a cab jumped the curb and slammed into scaffolding on 97th Street and Broadway following a collision with another car. The woman was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital. (DNAinfo)

The Upper West Side Streets Rennaisance, a group that advocates for a more pedestrian-and-bike-friendly neighborhood, is planning to propose a new 20-mile-per-hour speed limit for the Upper West Side. In most of the city, the speed limit is 30 mph. (Columbia Spectator)

A Puerto Rican advocacy group has been protesting outside ABC News headquarters on 66th and Columbus because of a line from the show “Work It” that was demeaning to Puerto Ricans. The show has been canceled but they want an apology and a meeting. I saw another unrelated protest over bias against African-Americans at ABC in the past month or two. (Fox News Latino)

Please limit comments to 150 words and keep them civil and relevant to the article at hand. Comments are closed after six days. Our primary goal is to create a safe and respectful space where a broad spectrum of voices can be heard. We welcome diverse viewpoints and encourage readers to engage critically with one another’s ideas, but never at the expense of civility. Disagreement is expected—even encouraged—but it must be expressed with care and consideration. Comments that take cheap shots, escalate conflict, or veer into ideological warfare detract from the constructive spirit we aim to cultivate.
