December 21, 2011 Weather: Rain, High of 58 Degrees.

Notices:
Landmark West is holding a caroling event, with treats provided, at the First Church of Christ, Scientist, Central Park West at 68th Street, tonight at 8:45.

News:
Four people were hurt after a taxi jumped the curb in front of the AMC Loews 68th Street movie theater on Broadway and knocked over a traffic light. The four had minor injuries, but at least one was taken to the hospital. (DNAinfo)

A 17-year-old was robbed of his BlackBerry on 68th Street and Amsterdam Avenue by three people who pulled a gun on him. One of the suspects was later arrested after a chase through a 58th Street garage. (DNAinfo)

We got an email notifying us of the opening of the new Jacob’s Pickles, a restaurant on 85th Street and Amsterdam Avenue devoted to Southern cooking and homemade pickles, naturally. The yelp reviews have already started coming in, and either this place is really good, or the owner’s friends are quite generous.  One yelper said: “What an amazing find.  We’ve been on the UWS for a couple years now – and this kind of place simply does not exist up here.  Feels like East Village or Brooklyn with the funky vibe, cool menu, great drink list.”

Controversial candy store Sugar & Plumm and Everything Yumm was told by the Landmarks Preservation Commission to tone down its “cutesie” facade before it can receive approval for renovations to its upcoming store on 78th Street and Amsterdam Avenue. (DNAinfo)
