YOUNG WOMAN KILLED BY SUV ON BROADWAY WAS TALENTED JAZZ SINGER

The 32-year-old woman who was hit by a Mercury Mountaineer and killed on Thursday night was an Italian singer who had recently moved to New York to try to make a career here.

The singer, Daniela D’Ercole, was crossing Broadway at 106th Street after getting out of a cab when she was hit by the northbound SUV. The New York Post quoted an unidentified law enforcement source who said that D’Ercole was crossing against the light and was holding an umbrella — she may not have seen the SUV. D’Ercole was pronounced dead at St. Luke’s hospital. The driver of the SUV apparently won’t be charged with anything.

D’Ercole lived in Harlem with a piano player and was trying to make it as a jazz singer in the city. She was from a rural part of Southern Italy. D’Ercole said on her website that “I would like my music to give people hope. This is my greatest desire.”

Check out some videos of her singing below.

Our primary goal is to create a safe and respectful space where a broad spectrum of voices can be heard. We welcome diverse viewpoints and encourage readers to engage critically with one another’s ideas, but never at the expense of civility. Disagreement is expected—even encouraged—but it must be expressed with care and consideration. Comments that take cheap shots, escalate conflict, or veer into ideological warfare detract from the constructive spirit we aim to cultivate.
