Students in Ms. Galaydick’s class at LaGuardia High School need 70 frogs so they can dissect them. It will cost $237.68 and you can help by donating some money. As Ms. Galaydick writes in her appeal for donations: “Do you remember the first time you dissected an organism in high school? The experience stays with you for a lifetime!” It truly does. Also Mr. Hoffner at LaGuardia needs $536.02 for 35 copies of Catch-22.
Our weekly Upper West Side events list is up now!

Tipster John tells us that Brian Deli & Food Plaza on the corner of 67th Street and Amsterdam Avenue, which was seized by the government with tons of food left inside to rot, has reopened. Let’s hope they cleared out the old food.
Buzzfeed created the Ultimate Nerd Guide to New York City, a map of all things nerdy. Click on the bottom map to see the Upper West Side locations, including Zuul’s apartment from Ghostbusters. (Buzzfeed)
A fire broke out in a clothes dryer at 924 West End Avenue, but no injuries were reported. It was probably caused by too much lint in the dryer. (DNAinfo)
When I saw West Side Rag’s note about an UWS school needing money to dissect frogs I went to the website immediately and donated $25. I remember dissecting a frog as if it happened last week (and I’m 64). I felt this incredible sense of there being order in the universe when I learned how each organ worked and fit together inside the body. Help kids have this experience.
