A GUIDE TO THE BLACK EYED PEAS CONCERT IN CENTRAL PARK

The Black Eyed Peas are expecting up to 60,000 people to show up tonight for their rescheduled concert on the Great Lawn in Central Park, and the fans and police were getting ready early on Friday. By noon, dozens of people were already in line at 72nd Street, even though no one will be allowed onto the Great Lawn until 3 p.m. and the concert doesn’t start until 7 p.m. Police were mobilizing all over the park; I saw more than 100 officers between just 79th and 72nd Streets getting ready to enter the park. More info and FAQs about the concert is here. At the bottom of this post, check out the list of what you can and can’t bring in (you can bring bottled water, by the way)

If you have a ticket, make sure you follow the instructions about where to enter the park. If you have questions email events@robinhood.org. If you don’t have a ticket, there are hundreds available on craigslist. If you want to watch it live from the comfort of your home, go to this site. And if you want to check out what’s going on backstage starting at 6 op.m., courtesy of musician will.i.am, click here.

The Robin Hood Foundation, which is hosting the concert, is already teasing that there will be some special guests (Taylor Swift was supposed to play at the first concert), but is keeping their identities secret for now. We’ll let you know if we hear more.

Our primary goal is to create a safe and respectful space where a broad spectrum of voices can be heard. We welcome diverse viewpoints and encourage readers to engage critically with one another’s ideas, but never at the expense of civility. Disagreement is expected—even encouraged—but it must be expressed with care and consideration. Comments that take cheap shots, escalate conflict, or veer into ideological warfare detract from the constructive spirit we aim to cultivate.
