AMAZING HOME VIDEO SHOWS RIVER-LIKE FLOOD FROM BUSTED UPPER WEST SIDE WATER MAIN

An eyewitness video we posted below shows how a river of water rushed through the Upper West Side after a water main broke on Monday morning at 11 a.m. near the intersection of 106th Street and Central Park West. The flood put at least four subway lines out of commission in the neighborhood — the A, B, C and D. Some people who live in the area told me that their water was brown; supposedly when a line breaks like that, other lines kick in to supply the buildings and stir up sediment that ends up coming out of peoples’ pipes. The DEP told DNAinfo that it isn’t dangerous.

Watch the video below by youtube user TheMacKendrick to get a sense of the power of the flood, and check back here for more updates on whether the subways will be up and running tomorrow.
