August 8, 2011 Weather: Partly cloudy, High of 88 Degrees.

Notices:
There are tons of great events this week on our calendar. Given that the government and economy are imploding, maybe plan a quiet night to listen to some music and pass out drunk.

News:
A woman sued Planet Sushi on 78th Street and Amsterdam Avenue after she ordered a tuna roll with spicy sauce. Unfortunately, included with the spicy sauce was semen, she claims. The woman kept some of the “sauce” and sent it to a lab, where the first two tests were inconclusive but a third test showed the “the possible presence of bodily fluids.” “She alleges that as a result of this incident, she continues to suffer physiological and psychological injuries, has had to increase threefold her psychological care for anxiety and depression, and that she still cannot eat sushi, which had been her favorite food.” (Eater)

The New York City Triathlon on Sunday had some casualties: Michael Kudryk, a 64 year old from Freehold, NJ, died of  a heart attack while swimming in the Hudson River in the first leg of the race, and a 40-year-old woman also sustained a heart attack while swimming and was taken to the hospital. A 30-year-old man angry at his father drove dad’s van into the water at the Harlem Meer in Central Park. My father cares more about that van than he does about me.”(NY Daily News)

Also check out our stories on the demise of the Blue Donkey Bar, health violations closing down Uno Chicago Grill, a groper on the Upper West Side, and the Fairway pancake-eating contest, all from this weekend.

Our primary goal is to create a safe and respectful space where a broad spectrum of voices can be heard. We welcome diverse viewpoints and encourage readers to engage critically with one another’s ideas, but never at the expense of civility. Disagreement is expected—even encouraged—but it must be expressed with care and consideration. Comments that take cheap shots, escalate conflict, or veer into ideological warfare detract from the constructive spirit we aim to cultivate.
