SHAKESPEARE IN THE PARK IN THE FALL: CITY OPERA’S BRILLIANT, NOVEL EXPERIMENT

New York City Opera’s decision to leave Lincoln Center for its upcoming season was very controversial and union members are still fighting the move. But the opera just announced its schedule for next season, and there’s at least one very cool idea in it.

The opera company is planning to team with the Public Theater to stage an opera at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park. The opera will be based on a Shakespeare play, to go with the Delacorte’s historic commitment to the Bard. That’s right, Shakespeare in the Park in the Fall! It’s an idea the Public Theater has kicked around before and frankly it’s a damn good one.

The opera company didn’t announce what show they’re going to put on, but we’ll keep you updated when we hear more.
