An amateur opera singer is facing criminal charges for slapping a doctor whose family got between her and some frozen pad thai at Trader Joe’s on 72nd Street and Broadway. Yes, what you just read is apparently true, courtesy of the New York Post.
The Post came out with a whopper this morning that will make everyone step very lightly around the frozen food cases at Trader Joe’s. Apparently, amateur soprano Marcella Caprario’s husband Bill was reaching for some frozen pad thai, but a boy was in his way — apparently, Caprario thought the kid was deliberately blocking her husband’s progress to the package of noodles. So Bill says “They don’t even say excuse me,” in that sotto voce voice that opera singers know so well. The boy’s mother, Dr. Catherine London, chastised Caprario for picking on a boy, and that’s when Caprario pulled back her hand and laid the smack down, according to the Post.
Cleanup in aisle 4!
No, no blood, but London’s face started to swell and it stung bad. Caprario doesn’t dispute slapping London. But her lawyer said “Not that we’re condoning slapping people, but this was justified, reasonable force.” Or as the Post put it, she felt “the doctor needed slapping.”
London, by the way, is a family doctor who has appeared on “The Joy Behar Show.”
The case is scheduled to be heard in criminal court today. When the world ends and the aliens take over, we will know why.
