The Wild Bird Fund has signed a 10-year lease to open a wild bird sanctuary at 565 Columbus Avenue between 87th and 88th Streets, former home of the 88 Noodle House. Yes, actual wild birds will be getting rehabilitated on Columbus Avenue. In fact, the new storefront is in a very attractive area for animals: it’s across the street from Animal General and the Center of Avian and Exotic Medicine (you know what they say about “birds of a feather…” Sorry.) In fact, it’s the only bird sanctuary in the city.
The Wild Bird Fund is now raising money to get medical equipment and other supplies for the birds. It’s holding a fundraiser on Saturday at the Boat Basin Cafe and it’s $20 to get in. There will be a raffle, a silent auction and a demonstration. And yes, you will get to meet some of those poor sick birds.
Winick Realty represented the fund in the deal.
