A woman jogger was sexually assaulted in Central Park Thursday morning, an NYPD spokesperson said.
“[The assault] occurred at 7:21 a.m., on a footpath in the vicinity of Wollman Rink [near 63rd Street],” an NYPD spokesperson told WSR. “A woman 20-30 was attacked by a dark-skinned male.”
“She was grabbed from behind and put in a chokehold…,” according to ABC. “She lost consciousness and awoke with cuts, abrasions and bruises to her arms and chin.” The suspect fled the scene in an unknown direction, police said. The victim was taken to Mt. Sinai West, in stable condition.
Feel very bad for the woman.

Foolish statement…everyone knows that crime got worse under him.
Crime got worse in virtually every major city during the pandemic.
There was crime before DiBlasio but there’s so much more now. City seems so much less safe.
I feel so sorry for this woman and hope she is ok. We all need to learn self defense and carry pepper spray. I studied Muay Thai at Valor on 72nd and Broadway and also took a self defense class there. We learned what to do when attacked from behind. I believe there is a class this Saturday. Please ladies get yourselves and your daughters trained.
Until the penalties catch up with the seriousness of the crime, we will continue seeing this behavior as we did before DeBlasio and as we will continue seeing after.

This is not a surprise. This is what happens when your city politicians vote to defund the police. How many more horrific crimes must we endure? I think it is extremely important for everyone to write to your local city representatives to let them know that they must share the responsibility and start to take action to get more funds to our overworked policeman.
Love how people jump straight to “this is what happens when you defund the police” when no one has actually defunded the police! If the police are this useless with full funding, maybe it IS time to go ahead and cut their bloated budget so that we can actually tackle these problems.

Police don’t prevent crime. They show up after it happens. More police funding will not make you or society safer. Poverty, despair and hopelessness are powerful motivators to turn to crime. You want less crime? Crime prevention starts with refunding our communities, social programs and creating opportunity. People need to feel hope.

De Blasio has been a disaster for NYC! Eight years of disaster! Before him there was **some** sense of law and order here. Now it is a free for all: Just take what you want, rob whom you want since there is no even a jail to put you in. Just help yourself!

Police presence can prevent crime. Sure and proportionate consequences for crime at lease may prevent the perpetrator from doing it again during his or her incarceration. We cannot ignore the impact of a refusal to accept that laws must be enforced and those who break the laws no matter their race, creed, National origin or sexual identification or status must be punished
This includes police!
We must also look at social programs but let’s not label the poor as criminals. It’s stigmatizing and offensive.
Of course police prevent crime – if folks learn that negative actions again have for them personally a cost, that is, consequences (police investigations, arrests, detention etc) that disincentivizes many would be perpetrators. To look at the role of police as a snapshot in one specific crime instead of strongly disincentivizing crime, ignores the forest for the trees.
Policing is a reactionary view to crime as opposed to addressing the root causes. I’m not surprised because it’s typical of how issues are addressed. Never putting the effort into actually solving issues.
But here we are. I repeat, police don’t prevent crimes and advocating for a society of fear and intimidation is not a healthy society to live. When our communities are funded with social programs that help people we’re safer. When people are happy and have hope, they’re not thinking about committing crimes and we’re all safer and happier for it.
You are correct. And the latest coddling of criminals with the no bail, catch and release type arrests are only hurting the hard working middle and lower income families.
I do hope Eric Adams stands his ground and brings back the anti-crime units, but I fear he may cave to the foolishness of the left leaning electorate and BLM.
I hear that he wasn’t very effective in Brooklyn. Does anyone know any details about what I just said? I hope he acknowledges the connection between his wearing a bullet-prod vest and carrying a gun, and we potential victims out here. It’s nice to want to know what made a criminal do the act. It’s more important to know that victims suffer long after the crime is done, and social justice warriors ought to be more concerned with their trauma, moving forward.
It should go without saying that we need to work on prevention. But it’s more serious than “Hurt people hurt people. It’s people who are not held accountable for their acts who think nothing of what they do do others.
I can’t believe it, after growing up in the 70s and 80s to be seeing these kinds of things in Manhattan again. I thought this kind of thing was ancient history.

That’s a good clear image combined with the suspect’s “gait”. He is a subway fare beater also, as the video shows he was Entering the station through an exit.
There is additional footage turned into the police recorded on a corner store security camera — with his mask DOWN. If he comes up for air, the police will have him in custody before the weekend is over. If he is the perp.
This is horrific for this poor woman. I think it is worth analysis to see how this happened and whether it is related to lessened police presence in certain areas. However, in the meanwhile, I think it would be wise to run with a partner or two, or choose a well travelled area. The loop in Central Park has many runners at this time. Self-defense class would babe good, but “an ounce of prevention…..”
