If you’ve got a strong back, a strong mind or even strong breath you can help your community.
We’ve heard about several volunteer opportunities in the last couple of weeks. Check them out below:
Thousand Turkey Challenge
Buy a turkey for a needy family to be distributed by West Side Campaign Against Hunger. The kickoff event is on Nov. 19, and you can learn more about the event here.
Helping Out at the 105th street Dog Run
I am working on transplanting shrubs, and will need 3-4 strong folks to help out this coming Sunday—November 17—to do the final move and replant. Please let me know if you can help out, and what time is best for you, and I’ll schedule accordingly: volunteer@dogrun105.org.
Fall Leaf Raking at Riverside Park
Saturday, November 16th 10am-1pm
Riverside Park, Various Locations
With trees, comes leaves – and when they fall in the park, it’s necessary to clean them up. Join Riverside Park Conservancy to rake leaves off of our pathways, high-traffic areas, and lawns to prevent them from clogging storm drains, making pathways slippery, and smothering the grass. All leaves will be added to our compost pile and turned into valuable mulch for use throughout the park.
Families, groups, and volunteers of all ages are welcome. Jumping in piles encouraged! For more info or to register call 212-870-3070 or email rsvp@riversideparknyc.org
More info here.
