I was away last week, but I’m grateful to the West Side Rag columnists for keeping the site rocking in my absence, and for Maria Gorshin for manning the twitter and facebook feeds. I hope you enjoyed their original pieces last week. Luckily, it was a slow news week, so you didn’t miss much. I’ll recap the top stories of the week in bulletin today.

At 12:18 a.m. today, 60 firefighters were called to a fire at 366 Amsterdam Avenue between 77th and 78th Streets, where Posies flower shop was on fire. No injuries were reported and the firefighters got the blaze under control by 12:46. Tipster @tovahgo talked to an employee and tells us that the store might still be salvageable.
A bank robber failed in his attempt to rob Chase at Broadway and 70th Street on Saturday morning, after the teller pressed an alarm and the man ran away. (ABC)
Community Board 7 wants to open school playgrounds after school, on weekends, and during the summer to give kids more places to play. (DNAinfo)
Archaeologists have been excavating the historical African-American Seneca Village that was pushed out to make way for the creation of Central Park in the mid-1850’s. The dig uncovered lots of interesting artifacts and should lead to a much deeper understanding of how people lived. (New York Times)
Some residents of the historic apartment building The Ansonia at 73rd Street and Broadway are sick of seeing a glowing peace sign in a window at the top of the building. Assemblywoman Linda Rosenthal is checking with the city to see if it might be illegal. Damn people, give Peace a chance! (DNAinfo)
A manhole exploded on 76th Street and a water main busted this weekend, flooding 82nd Street and shutting off water to hundreds of people.
A motorcyclist on the Henry Hudson Parkway was critically injured on Saturday after rear-ending a car around 96th Street. (DNAinfo)
CBS weatherman Lonnie Quinn had his $2,300 bike stolen in broad daylight on 63rd Street and Central Park West — despite the four locks on the bike. (CBS)
