The parade starts at the Dinosaur Playground at 96th Street and winds up at Ellington’s Cafe at 105th Street, where a costume contest will take place. Pop-Up Gallery – Jim Kempner Fine Art on the UWS: 2242 Broadway; open through November 5th from Tuesday to Sunday from 1 to 7 p.m.; free
There aren’t many contemporary art galleries on the UWS, which makes Chelsea gallery Jim Kempner Fine Art’s pop-up location near West 80th Street extra special. For a limited time, get a taste of contemporary art in a gallery setting right on the UWS. I’m eager to check this out!
”You Should Be Dancing: New York 1976 and Beyond” at The NY Historical: Open Tuesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. (open late, till 8 p.m., on Friday), 170 Central Park West (at West 77th St.); tickets start at $6
This recently-opened temporary exhibition takes visitors back in time, to a decade when the new music genres of punk, disco, and hip hop sprang up in New York City and then exploded across the world. Featuring musical instruments, performance gear, fashion items, period photographs, albums, flyers, and performance clips presented within spaces reminiscent of the clubs, bars, and gathering places of the time, “You Should Be Dancing” documents the impact this era has had on American culture at large.
