An Upper West Side school recently had a very special substitute teacher as a “Stranger Things” star led an acting class for a group of local second graders.
Millie Bobby Brown, who plays Eleven in the hit Netflix show, recently taught a film acting class to students at P.S. 84 on West 92nd Street.
The lesson was part of the Youtube series called “Celebrity Substitute,” where A-list actors teach kids about being on the stage or in front of the camera. Recent past shows have featured Idris Elba and Quinta Brunson.
“Millie Bobby Brown surprises the students of PS 84 on New York City’s Upper West Side with an unforgettable lesson in the art of acting for film,” reads a description for the most recent episode. “This episode of Celebrity Substitute celebrates creativity, collaboration, confidence, and the unique craft of bringing stories to life on camera.”
Students at P.S. 84 put on a play each year, and for featuring in the show, Celebrity Substitute gave the school new rehearsal mirrors, set pieces, costumes, and film equipment. P.S. 84 serves students pre-K through fifth grade.
Brown’s lesson ends with the students putting on a real filmmaking experience, where the kids got to see themselves on the screen alongside the “Stranger Things” star.
At one point, one of the Upper West Side kids said, “She’s so British, I can smell her accent.”
