He is 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighs 190 pounds, and has brown eyes and gray hair, the NYPD added. He was last seen wearing a white golf shirt, gray pants, and brown shoes, police said.
NYPD released the photo below of Dewars.

Such a sad situation. I’ll never understand why the general public isn’t notified right away when this happens. Imagine how many people may have seen him sitting on a park bench or even walking around the neighborhood and thought nothing of it. When the Citizens App was still fairly new there was a whole team that would send out alerts and actively look for missing children and adults. Not sure what ever became of that.
I just looked it up, and this is the exact same building that lady went missing from in the bitter cold last winter! It’s been an SRO and a homeless shelter and it looks like units are being rented (illegally?) as a “hostel” now. Not sure whether any supportive services are supposed to be provided there or whether it’s just a place that the desperate and vulnerable end up. If the former, they are not doing a good job of keeping an eye on the residents!
No, it’s now apartments for the elderly and disabled, mostly ex homeless people now. There’s a few legacy tenants and some retired Vets.
Nothing illegal about it. RiseBoro runs it.
Robert has major health issues so I hope they find him soon.
I live around the block and I certainly recognize him from the neighborhood, I’ll keep my eyes on the lookout!
I just spoke with Robert Dewars who you reported missing. He is alive and well and back at his apartment on W. 94th St. I called the Crime Stoppers Hotline and they put me in touch with the detectives at the 24. They said they would follow up. But I know this man and he is back at his apartment. Thanks, RT
Thanks for the update!
TY for that. I didn’t know he was back. 🙂
Our whole neighborhood has these shelters/assisted housing and they are all poorly run and the department of homeless services dumped them all in the west 90s and 100s with no additional serves they were supposed to provide.
If people really care about these residents who really do need help then you should call your city council representatives and the mayors office because they are not getting the help. They’re overcrowded within 5 to 10 blocks and they should have more resources in different neighborhoods so the services are spread out and the police and social services can handle the amount of people with needs. If you really care about them, then speak up because they are languishing and not getting any of the help they need as of now.
That is so NOT true.
I live in a RiseBoro building and while maintenance issues could be fixed sooner overall we are fine. We have caseworkers and social stuff. We are not lacking in help if we need it.
They can’t control people 100%. This is not an old folks home. It’s an apartment building albeit a supportive one. People here have the right to leave and go away if they want. It just so happens that this person has health issues and they got worried when he didn’t tell them he was going away. He’s supposed to do that so they know, where he is.
I live here and I am not seeing anything what you are describing on my block in my building. If anything they keep a pretty close eye on everybody. If someone doesn’t go in and out regularly they do a welfare check.
That is not what we are experiencing on the same block and on Broadway. I am glad you are not experiencing problems but between 94th and 99th, many people are and our police can’t keep up to help. The lack of additional officers and the lack of additional social services that were supposed to be given cause an undue strain in the 90’s. You can go to a community board meeting and a community precinct meeting and you will hear examples. Glad you are OK.
