Police are asking for the public’s help in regard to two recent attacks on the Upper West Side.
On December 19, a 23-year-old man was standing on the northbound platform around 7:20 p.m. at the 96th Street and Broadway subway station when a man punched him in the face and stabbed him in the back, after an unspecified verbal dispute, police said.
The victim was rushed to Mount Sinai Morningside in stable condition, and the attacker fled the scene, NYPD added.
Police said it is unclear what the two men were arguing about.
Police released a photo earlier this week of the suspect, whom they described as between 20 and 30 years old with a slender build.

Two days later. on December 21, a 24-year-old man was walking near West End Avenue and West 107th Street around 10:30 p.m. when an attacker struck him in the face multiple times with a bat, police said. The attacker then ran off toward Riverside Park, NYPD added.
The victim suffered multiple face injuries and was taken to Mount Sinai Morningside in stable condition, police said. Police did not provide a motive in the attack.
NYPD described the suspect as five feet eight inches tall with a slim build and last seen wearing all black clothing and carrying a black baseball bat.

Anyone with information regarding either Upper West Side incident is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).

A slow week for crime.
David, I’m afraid it’s because the “little man,” doesn’t matter anymore so the money and policies go to wider and more lucrative causes. I think the government forgets that the population is made up of all people not just the Rich and famous — remembering the individual is what makes a civilization, civilized! I think we’ve lost that line of thinking, so the life of the man on the street doesn’t seem to count.
What a sad commentary!
We have technology that allows us to read a license plate from a satellite in orbit. We can shoot hi-def video on our phones. Why is it that every surveillance video looks like a black and white TV image from 1955?
That first image is very clear. If you knew that person, they would be recognizable to you. So this comment is quite an exaggeration.
Perhaps only up and until martial law + the Panopticon in 4K UHD Dolby Vision w/ Dolby Atmos sound is installed will those who frequent this comment section “feel safe”?
Oh look at that! Panopitcon, 8PM Wednesdays on CBS after NCIS San Bernardino!
Pensions at 45.
I got mine at 38
the pictures were taken with a potato
Betting not the first crime for the perpetrators
“NYPD described the suspect as five feet eight inches tall with a slim build ”
Was he Black, Caucasian, Hispanic, Asian? These are normal characteristics included in a description. Did WSR leave it out? Did the NYPD? Is it unknown?
Looking at his photo should be enough. Who really knows what ethnicity or race is anymore. It’s not worth guessing. Most people are wildly mixed, whether or not you know it or not.
My thoughts exactly. Has to be political correctness
Of course. If the person was white this would be all over the news. But it’s a typical black in white crime – which is never a hate crime-
It isn’t always easy. For example, what is the race of the man in the first set of pictures? I honestly don’t know and if I were giving the police a description I would not include a race.
You could say “light skinned.”
Might not know his exact race, but you know he isn’t White or Asian (i.e. that he’s black/brown). That information is critically important and if the police won’t provide then they really can have no expectations for public assistance.
I don’t think we do know that. I have a friend of Italian lineage who has olive skin and black hair. People often start speaking to him in Spanish and then seem upset when he doesn’t understand . These people would likely tell the police he is Hispanic when he is not. Also, Lois right above you called him “light skinned”. That’s different than black/brown.
We don’t WANT to be accurate, we WANT to cast aspersions on minorities!
Well, they say he was wearing all black. That narrows down the list of possible suspects by a lot.
All black clothing is quite an OBTUSE leap to a description of race…. Don’t you think? Wait… that comment was made without thinking!!!
I took the comment as a humorous remark, not a “leap to a description of race.”
Not sure if it’s necessary.
Mayor Mamdani gonna have his hands full. I’m not sure a mental health counselor is gonna be able to handle this one.
It seems as if 90% of every violent crime is committed by mostly young men, What is going wrong with their upbringing? If they are mentally ill, why aren’t they getting the help they need before they commit these violent crimes? Who are their parents and what went wrong with how they were raised? Nearly every news story has the same perpetrator. Why are so many men in our society becoming violent criminals?
Seems that way until you look closer and then you KNOW it’s that way. Can’t describe suspects as non-white yet.
It has been ever thus
your post feels disingenuous. first, is the only generalization you see the perp’s gender? second, have you seen ANY statistics about how things have changed over the past 40 years?
You really don’t know the answer(s)?
😂😂😂😂
Feel better!
Supposedly the poor man that was attacked near 107th Street & West End Ave. by Strauss Park was walking his dog. You are not even safe walking your dog any more.
Correct.
Only going to get worse.
Virtue signalers will still keep defending perpetrators—until they get whacked in the head by one of them.
Looks like the same guy? Hmmmm…..
Do you think we could get some beat cops now?
Ever hear of neighborhood patrols to reduce crime? God helps those who help themselves.
Huh? The equations sound weirdly skewed no? Aren’t WE the ones that need help, from nypd destaffing, progressive DAs, AGs, and a collectivist City Hall?
My guess is it is the same perp who committed both crimes.
Clearly someone is mentally unwell to do the acts described in this report. Thankfully the new mayor’s mental health taskforce – deployed to the subways where they are most needed – will reduce the tragic consequences of the scourge of mental illness. Hopefully the afflicted will be provided the care they need.
