A new school is opening in 2026 on the Upper West Side.
Playgarden Prep, which offers Pre-K, preschool, and early learning for children 18 months to 5 years old, is expected to open at 601 Amsterdam Avenue, between West 89th and 90th streets, this coming January, according to its website.
It will be Playgarden Prep’s fourth location in New York City, as it already has two outposts on the Upper East Side and another in Tribeca.
The school focuses on such skills as language and vocabulary, early reading, motor skills, early math concepts, music and creative arts, science, social emotional skills, and independence.
“Our Montessori-inspired Preschool is where children thrive through exploration, play, and intentional teaching with emphasis on STEAM, language, and literacy,” reads Playgarden Prep’s Upper West Side online page. “We focus on whole child development, nurturing social, emotional, cognitive, and physical growth.”
The Upper West Side school will also offer free, once-a-week baby music classes for 3- to 9-month-olds.
The spring semester at the UWS location is expected to begin on January 5th and run through June 3rd.
