An Upper West Side yoga studio is temporarily closed after a fire broke out on Monday morning, according to the business and FDNY.
The flames ignited around 5 a.m. at 140 West 83rd Street, between Columbus and Amsterdam, FDNY said. The blaze was under control by 5:34 a.m., and there were no injuries, the spokesperson added.
However, later that morning, NY Loves Yoga, which operates out of the building, announced on its website and Instagram that it would be closed for the foreseeable future due to the damage.
“Sadly, early this morning at the studio there was a fire that closed the studio down,” the UWS business wrote on Instagram. “No one was hurt within the building, but our beloved Studio is badly damaged. Send us good thoughts. Until we learn more or can make a new path, the studio is closed.”
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
WSR will update the story if we learn more.

Hot Yoga?
Feel the burn.
They totally should reopen and just offer that. Burnt pizza crust used as mats.
LOL 🙂
I hope Seinfeld’s cars in the garage Nextdoor were not damaged. Praying for the cars!
LOL. Worst kept secret in NY!
This is a block that definitely needs to be cleaned up!
Isn’t there a fire station right there on the same block? A bit ironic.
I believe this is the second fire on this block just this year (or the other was late last year). I wonder if it is coincidence that this is also the only block of West 83rd Street that could be developed, since it is almost all two-, three- and five-story buildings, half of which are residential and the other half commercial. It is also mostly Latino.
I wonder if we are seeing a slow prelude to the “eviction” of commercial and residential tenants in a move to develop the block. If so, you heard that suspicion here first.
