September 19th to 21st
Visit an UWS Greenmarket.
It’s harvest time, and the Upper West Side’s greenmarkets are piled high with fresh produce and local foods, some grown and others prepared. The abundance isn’t just on the folding tables and in the coolers; it’s in the shopping experiences available to Upper West Siders. We have greenmarkets stretching the length of the neighborhood, on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays (plus more during the week). Hit up one or all of these over the weekend, and drop your favorite vendors and items in the comments please. Most sellers accept cash, SNAP/EBT, and credit/debit cards.
- 97th Street Greenmarket, Fridays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.; West 97th Street between Amsterdam and Columbus avenues
- Tucker Greenmarket, Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; West 66th Street and Broadway
- Morningside Park’s Down-to-Earth Greenmarket; Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.; West 110th Street and Manhattan Avenue
- Columbia Greenmarket, Sundays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Broadway between West 114th and West 116th streets
- 77th/79th Street Greenmarket, Sundays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Columbus Avenue between West 77th and West 81st streets

Comedian and NYC history nerd Tom Delgado will host this early-bird comedy set at New York Historical, which features a rotation of stand-ups that includes Chuck Nice and Jenny Zigrino. Pay-as-you-wish hours at the museum are 5 to 8 p.m., so you can arrive early or stay late to see exhibitions like Blacklisted: An American Story and Dining in Transit.

As we transition out of summer and into fall, it’s not just colored leaves you’ll find in Central Park. The newly-opened Davis Center in northernmost Central Park is launching its “Rooted” wellness series in partnership with Central Park Conservancy. The series offers a three-hour window of wellness sessions designed to nurture the mind, body and soul. This weekend, there’s a free “Financial Wellness” session at 10 a.m., followed by “Yoga Storytime” for $5 at 11 a.m., and a free “Wellness Circle” at noon.
Kinesis Project Dance Theater: Sunday, Sept. 21st at 5:30; Riverside Park South at West 62nd St. and the Hudson River Greenway; free and open to all.
Kinesis, known for its colorful, large-scale works, will perform “Bridge Matter / The Reach” in its NYC premiere as part the Riverside Park Conservancy’s “Summer on the Hudson” series. Traversing from Locomotive Lawn at West 62nd Street in the park to the Transfer Bridge at West 68th Street, expect movement, music and dramatic colors mimicking the sunset along the Hudson. Grammy-winning saxophonist Johnny Butler will accompany the performance along with saxophonists Matt Nelson and Nick Lyons.

The Morningside Lights Parade in Morningside Park is on Saturday night, starting at 8:00 pm. It starts in the park at 116th Street – look for all the bright lantersn! It then wanders around the park and ends up – GULP, SHOCK!!! – inside the gates of the Columbia campus. (Big of them, I know.)
E-mail address should read: neighbors@columbia.edu
Start location is on Morningside Avenue
( that’s the east side of the park) and probably 120th. Get there before 8.
I peeked into Miller Theater yesterday and once again the lanterns are terrific, this year reflecting on 1965, the year the Columbia School of Arts began.
And remember neighbors without a Columbia ID can e-mail ‘neighbors@Columia.edu’ and request access to campus. You can be sent a bar code; showing that and a form of I.D. gets you through security, for a few months.
Another event, on Saturday September 20 from 12 -6 pm.
Friends of Morningside Parks present Common Ground Festival at the Morningside Park Waterfall. Pony rides, Live Music, Magic Shows, Puppet Shows, Lindy Hop, Zumba, Yoga, Face Painting and more. Come by for a wonderful time.
‘Join your local community on Sundays at 3pm to practice meditation out of doors in Central Park near the West 100th Street entrance. We practice mostly in the Buddhist tradition with both experienced practitioners and those new to meditation welcome. Freely offered to the community. RSVP to Kalyana.Mitta4747@gmail.com’
