The delays on Tuesday stem from a power loss to a signaling system at the West 4th Street station around 8:30 a.m., according to multiple reports, including ABC7. It is unclear if the outage had to do with the heat on Tuesday, which is expected to get up to 98 degrees.
If you’re on the Upper West Side and need to take the train, we recommend taking the 1, 2 or 3 lines.

Oh boy. Hope nobody is stuck down there without a/c!
That’s a pretty cool photo!
That’s why everyone should be riding bikes. Even the old can ride e bikes.
Right, it’s easy to carry a 25lb pack on a bike in this heat when you’re 65.
Then you have to store the bike.
Last, yesterday, I travelled from Manhattan to Flushing. Hardly a trip I’d want to make on a bike.
Get real.
Per a recent NYT article: “about 85 percent of New York City’s subway system still operates with an analog signal system….Over the past 15 months, it has led to an average of nearly 4,000 train delays a month. The authority is replacing the system with a modern upgrade known as communications-based train control, or C.B.T.C., which is becoming the standard for transit systems worldwide…But the system upgrade is at risk. The Trump administration is attempting to kill congestion pricing, a tolling program in Manhattan that would raise billions of dollars for the work. The M.T.A.’s next capital budget could also be in jeopardy, if Washington follows through on its threats to defund transit projects in New York State.”
So there you have it. The next time someone complains about congestion pricing, you can ask them if they have any other suggestions for paying to upgrade 100 year old MANUAL signal switches on one of the world’s most heavily used subway system that never closes?
My suggestion has been consistent over decades. Stop the wasteful spending and there will be money for essential spending. The MTA needs to be Doged.
MTA, MONEY TAKING AGENCY, clearly needs new management.
Where is Elon and DOGE when needed.
