Let’s celebrate his life, not the way he approached comments, etc. Neither the time nor the place.

My condolences to Carol and the rest of the family.

Like so many readers I appreciate the “family” feel among writers, editors and everyone behind the WSR – even without knowing the family in person. How sad to hear this news of Robert’s passing, and to know of your great loss. Sincere condolences from one of your devoted readers (and a maybe sheepish, possibly over-effusive commenter). With many others here I add my gratitude for the long reach of his talents and contributions and community spirit.

My condolences to the Tannenhauser family. I knew him only through the West Side Rag, but that is a legacy that should bring you much pride and satisfaction. I always describe the WSR to my friends as being much better than it needs to be.

Bobby Tannenhauser was a prince–a devoted husband to Carol for fifty-something years, a loving father and grandfather, an astute businessman, and a kind and generous friend to many. He was a role model in boundless ways, including how to live for years with a serious, increasingly debilitating illness. May his memory be a blessing.

Bob and Carol have been exceptional partners in their stewardship of the Rag. Carol’s tale of how they came to own it is below. He was a true gent who seemed to delight in Carol’s more ‘front of the house’ work while he assured some of the back of the house in their mom-and-pop adventure. Moderating comments with tough love and bringing the Rag to the next level, Bob’s mark is everywhere. He was a mensch and the loss to Carol and his family must be immeasurable. Sincere condolences to his partner in life and all things WSR and to the Tannenhauser family. “Though lovers be lost, love shall not; and death shall have no dominion.”
