A food delivery driver was attacked Wednesday night on the Upper West Side after confronting two men who were tampering with his bike, a police spokesperson confirmed to West Side Rag.
The delivery worker, 34, was walking back to his bike around 10:20 p.m. near 37 West End Avenue, between 61st and 62nd streets, when he saw two men who appeared to be attempting to steal either his electric bike or the bike’s battery, police said.
When the man confronted the pair, they stabbed him in the back with a screwdriver, then ran away west on West End Avenue, police said.
The delivery worker was taken to Mount Sinai West in stable condition, police said.
There have been no arrests and the investigation remains ongoing, police said.

No description of the perps?
For equity reasons they can’t give a description.
Once again, if there was a non-removable (or difficult to remove) license plate on the bike, with insurance and registration, the robbers would not have attempted this, or at least been caught asap if they succeeded in the theft. Let’s get plates on all these vehicles to cut down on all criminality NOW!
Because cars never get broken into?
Sam you seem to be under the delusion that the NYPD is a fully functional organization, it is not and has not been in years. Understaffing is becoming a safety issue and there is no one to do enforcement of laws we have let alone new laws.
In theory yes, in reality no.
A biker was stabbed and the appropriate response is to mandate bike license plates?
I love that idea.
I believe Sam is correct in her assertion. Adding a license plate-the ability to ascertain ownership-lends a certain amount of deterrence to the equation. A thief is much less likely to steal a motorized vehicle if it can be easily identified. This will also almost certainly deter other humans from riding said “motorized” vehicles on sidewalks. Law enforcement, and eventual criminal prosecution depends on the ability to identify what was stolen and apprehend said thief by seeing them in possession of the stolen property.
I am all for registration on e-bikes, but what does this have to do with the topic at hand 🤔.
License plates don’t seem to matter to car thieves and vandals. And I’m not sure how police would be able to catch the perps faster. Can someone explain?
There is no explanation except that people like to bang on about license plates on e-bikes like it will save the world
How can you run away “west on West End Avenue”? It’s north and south.
Really? Figure it out
That poor man. This has to stop.
Vote better.
Wonder what’s over in that neighborhood? 🤔
Nada. Apartment buildings and delivery people..
I don’t know. Are you implying something? Can you spell it out for those who don’t know?
