A teenager was robbed Sunday evening at knifepoint on the Upper West Side, a police spokesperson confirmed to West Side Rag.

An 18-year-old was walking around 5:10 p.m. near 515 West 59th Street, between Amsterdam and West End Avenue, when three people approached him, police said.

The trio asked for his jacket, and after punching him multiple times in the head, one of the attackers took a long box-cutter knife and made stabbing motions at the teenager, police said. The victim was not stabbed, but the group put him into a choke hold and continued to throw punches, NYPD added.

One of the attackers then said he had a gun and would shoot him, but the victim told police he never saw a firearm, according to NYPD. The group eventually took the 18-year-old’s jacket and money, and fled west on 59th Street, police said.

The victim was taken to Mount Sinai West in stable condition, police said.

NYPD described the attackers as three males between 17 and 20 years old.

There have been no arrests and the investigation remains ongoing.

All the police are working on the CEO case. There are none left to look after us regular folks.

Both sentences false. Also, we shouldn’t equate murder and robbery

A few more punches, and the teen could have died, Joe.

Well, they’re at my CVS, so at least stuff isn’t stolen inside the store. I don’t know why they aren’t patrolling the streets. They could stay warm in the car, too. Incredible, that they must think shoplifters are as dangerous as these violent thugs. And maybe they are. Sad state of affairs. I never thought I’d want to see cops all over the place.

Is this really crime, or just kids being kids? We continue to be told that crime in NYC is on the way down, and that the UWS is one of the safest places on the planet.

The DA only prosecutes victims who fight back.

Particularly given the patently false final sentence, it’s hard to see how this comment contributes anything meaningful to community discussion.

Agreed. I routinely get censored for harmless comments yet this garbage makes it through? Really?

It is all fun and games until it is you or your child, friend, relative, etc.

Why can’t the ethnicity of the attackers be written – black, white, Asian or Hispanic ? So the police can have a better chance if catching them

I don’t know…put yourself in the shoes of a scared teenager getting choked and pummeled from all sides by 3 people in the dark (after 5pm), very likely by people wearing hoodies and surgical masks.

Now go ahead and accurately describe the ethnicity of the assailants with 100% certainty.

as long as the mayor is planning to waste 150 million dollars to redo fifth avenue for
pedestrians, and not solving any crime we are in great danger
we do not need to removate fifth avenue , no one will come into the city to dine or
spend money that will be over it will be a great new area for crime and homeless to s;eep
we are a really sick city right now

The Fifth Avenue budget is not coming out of the police budget. So let’s not spend on anything other than the police until all crime returns to its lowest levels ever?

Used to live in that area, and it can be quite desolate, and at this time of year, it’s already dark at 5:00.
