More Than a Living Wage: Well-Paid Maids Offers Benefits, Too

The home cleaning company Well-Paid Maids is known for paying cleaners a living wage of at least $27 an hour. That’s a big deal when the mean hourly wage for cleaners is only $15.35, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

And here’s what else: Well-Paid Maids also offers benefits.

Many cleaning companies misclassify their employees as contractors. That means workers can be paid less than the minimum wage and denied access to benefits, like sick leave, vacation and health insurance. Misclassified workers also don’t qualify for public and private programs, like unemployment, disability, workers’ compensation, and paid family and medical leave.

But Well-Paid Maids offers cleaners 20 PTO days and four paid holidays each year. Plus, they have access to four subsidized insurance plans: health, dental, vision and life. The company pays 80% of the premium costs and covers dependents.

Tati, who has been a cleaner at Well-Paid Maids since 2021, said her favorite benefit is health insurance.

“It was always a big issue to afford it with my former jobs,” she said. “I had to pay about $200 a month for it. The job didn’t pay well, and my paychecks weren’t high enough to pay my bills, so I had to cancel the insurance.”

Additionally, as W-2 staff, cleaners are covered by unemployment insurance, workers’ compensation insurance, and paid family and medical leave.

In other words, Well-Paid Maids takes care of their cleaners — so they can take care of your home.
