Upper West Siders rejoice. Mermaid Inn is reopening in its new neighborhood location on Sunday, the restaurant’s owner Daniel Abrams confirmed to West Side Rag on Friday.
The popular seafood restaurant will open on Sunday at 335 Columbus Avenue, on the corner of West 76th Street.
Mermaid Inn shuttered its previous Upper West Side location on Amsterdam Avenue between West 87th and 88th streets in the fall of 2022. A little more than a year after the closure, Abrams announced that the seafood restaurant would be reopening in the neighborhood at the new outpost.
Originally, the new Upper West Side Mermaid Inn eatery was expected to open in 2023, before then being pushed back to the summer of 2024.
Abrams previously told the Rag that the delay was caused by the construction process, which included converting a former bank into a restaurant.
Either way, Mermaid Inn will be open for business on Sunday!

Yay! We can’t wait. We’ve missed Mermaid Inn terribly!
I word: Hallelujah!
Chocolate puddingstan will be back in droves-
That it has a Times Square location is offputting.
Is it also offputting that there’s a branch on MacDougal Street and one in Chelsea? Just wondering.
If the new place is as good for a relaxed seafood dinner as the old one on Amsterdam Ave., I congratulate the owners for finding a successful formula.
No.
Chelsea and the Village have a reputation for good restaurants, while Times Square does NOT.
The photos from the UWS menu on this website look good.
Will there be a space like the one in front of the restaurant in the photo here?
Wow, the way you cover The Mermaid Inn, it’s like you’re part of their marketing department. Do other places garner as much of your attention?
I like this location much better than the previous one. Looking forward to going.
So happy to report the food and service are as good, if not better than ever. The TRAGEDY????? NO MORE GRATIS PUDDING.
This was always the joyful button to every happy meal there. When I realized it was happening tonight at the inaugural opening, I asked Tod, the manager and he explained that now with more room in the kitchen we are able to offer a full desert menu so no need for the pudding. I was CRUSHED.
I agree @mermaidinngroupie — it has to be a very low cost to them and a feel good item. Was always the perfect way to end a meal and who knows, maybe you even order an extra drink to enjoy the chocolate pudding? Seems short sighted
