UWS Rep. Jerry Nadler Swiftly Endorses Kamala Harris

As the Democratic party quickly coalesced around Vice President Kamala Harris’s presidential campaign, Congressman Jerry Nadler, who represents the Upper West Side, swiftly added his powerful voice. The clock told the story: President Biden dropped out of the race on X, formerly known as Twitter, at 2:13 pm on Sunday. Kamala Harris declared her candidacy there at 4:31 pm on Sunday. By 5:15 pm, Nadler, a 17-term U.S. Representative and the ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee, had issued the following statement on X:

By Sunday night, The New York Times said that “Ms. Harris appeared to have a glide path to the nomination.”

Nadler and Harris have been longtime allies. In 2019, the two teamed up on a bill that would decriminalize marijuana and expunge most convictions.

Oh my God!! She’s terrible! I lived in San Francisco for a while! She was hated there!

And yet they elected her multiple times to multiple offices. Weird.

I thought we were all going to work toward a better discussion here. Why don’t you tell us why you think she’s terrible, as well as hated in SF?

All of the Democrats should be ashamed. They have known Biden’s condition from the start. They’ve been interacting with him! The media also is culpable. A few weeks ago they were defending his cognitive ability after his strange behavior in France. Once he was finally out of the basement and in an uncontrolled environment it became obvious he was incapable of doing the job. Are we to believe that Kamala Harris had no idea about Biden’s condition? She was complicit in deceiving the American public.

It is also inconceivable how any member of the New York delegation could vote for the “Immigration Czar” with the record she has had and with the catastrophic impact her administration’s policies have had on NYC.

Kudos to Democrats, who just pulled off a successful insurrection!

you don’t know what an insurrection is. See 1/6, which was an attempted insurrection. This was simply an intra-party discussion. You are blithely repeating a Trump talking point.

“Immigration Czar” lol. It’s funny how easy it is to identify the people who regurgitate nonsensical Trump talking points in real time.

She wasn’t assigned to the border to “get to the root problem”? What happened? What was done by her?

His ‘condition’ ? He’s an old dude not a vegetable. Glad Biden made the right and unselfish decision, he’s perfectly capable of doing the job just not the best choice for the next four years.

Since Fox News & the NY Post have been clear that age is the most important issue in this election, I look forward to seeing many articles on Trump’s unhinged and frail mental state.

The President was forced out by the big-money donors. Stop trying to spin it as the sacrifice of a selfless man. The entire incident is an indictment of our entire system.

Sure he was under pressure from donors, but there is absolutely no mechanism for him to be forced out. He easily could have run out the clock and counted on voters distaste of Trump and probably had a 30-40% chance to still win. I’m glad he recognized it was better for the Dems and the country to pass the baton.

No mechanism for removal? Of course there is. It is called the 25th Amendment.

Seriously, Harris is going to get trounced by Trump. Hear me out: Democrats’ best chance is Hillary. Not joking. She’s way more qualified and experienced than Harris, plus she’s more moderate which will attract the middle.

Interesting theory, but I seem to recall Hillary Clinton ran for president back in 2016 and it didn’t work out too well.

Not a fan of Hillary, but to your point, Trump ran for president in 2020 and it did not work out too well for him. Also remember that Hillary won the popular vote.

Yes, Trump was running against a Biden-Harris ticket in 2020, so it stands to reason that someone who was on that ticket — Harris — would be a stronger choice for Democrats than an opponent whom he has already defeated.

In rock-paper-scissors terms, if paper beats rock in round 1 but loses to scissors in round 2, playing rock against paper again in round 3 isn’t the best strategy.

(Also, if you’re “not a fan of Hillary,” why defend the idea of making her the 2024 nominee? That caveat just goes to show that the almost reflexive dislike she triggers in so many people — regardless of whether it is fairly earned (it isn’t) — would make her a poor 2024 choice.)

Kamala would be a hand picked nominee not actually nominated to a ticket via the primary process. How is that democracy

Anyone is welcome to throw their hat in the ring. And anyone can endorse anyone. At this point I doubt anyone will challenge Harris but certainly anyone could.

Do the Dems even need to put together a primary at this point? She seems a shoe-in. Remember when Kamala debated Biden back in 2019? “There was a little girl in California…” It never gets old LOL!

The comments below are disgusting. Vote Blue Vote the Democratic ticket or you will pay the price. Most people will vote Blue no matter what. Suck it up. There are people who are fine with Kamala. The Party has to appear committed.

Kamala is our best option. She is a brilliant speaker, her message is clear and she will take no bs from Trump. If we have a public vote on who it should be there will be no time to rally. Our representatives should make the selection in our stead. Every democrat must vote for their party this year.
For the complainers: she is way better than the alternative.

I would like to see a reasonably open process for nomination. I am not crazy about “anointing” a candidate to whom party leadership thinks deference must be paid.

Still, even if it’s Harris, she is far better than Trump on many fronts.

The dislike half this country has for Hillary is well earned and well deserved. Though hundreds of examples of her arrogance and presumption of coronation exist one needs merely consider she took the rust belt for granted and since she lost she has blamed every one except herself. She still calls half the country deplorable.

Please focus on POLICY. “Beat Trump” is a statement, not a policy or a platform that will benefit the American people. The threat to democracy is the Soviet style of “silencing” the opposition and hiding things from the people. Stick to the facts so the mainstream media can’t add some subjective narrative. We are human beings with brains, let us use them. If Kamala can make some sensible statements backed up by facts and real actionable items geared towards solving problems I’m willing to listen.
