This year’s Tony Award ceremony, hosted by Oscar winner Ariana DeBose, will take place June 16 at Lincoln Center’s David H. Koch Theater. Productions up for consideration for 2024 Tony nominations included shows that opened at one of Broadway’s 41 eligible theaters between April 28, 2023 and April 25, 2024.
Among those nominated are three plays from Manhattan Theatre Club: Joshua Harmon’s “Prayer for the French Republic,” Jocelyn Bioh’s “Jaja’s African Hair Braiding” and Amy Herzog’s “Mary Jane,” which all also received nods for individual artists in several categories. A dominating force behind this year’s race for Best Play, the nonprofit theater is spotlighted in the documentary “Manhattan Theatre Club, a Home for Artists,” now streaming on the ALL ARTS site and app.
Actress and Billboard #1 recording artist Shoshana Bean is nominated for her role in “Hell’s Kitchen” along with co-stars Brandon Victor Dixon, Kecia Lewis and Maleah Joi Moon. Bean recently appeared the Webby-winning ALL ARTS series How Are Changed Me now streaming on the ALL ARTS YouTube channel.
Also in the running this year is “Purlie Victorious: A Non-Confederate Romp Through the Cotton Patch,” now streaming on ALL ARTS as part of “Broadway’s Best” lineup from Great Performances. The production picked up six nominations, including best revival for the play and best actor for Leslie Odom Jr.
