As Central Park’s Delacorte Theater undergoes construction this summer, New York City’s PBS station, THIRTEEN, is showcasing productions from The Public Theater’s Free Shakespeare in the Park as part of Broadway and Beyond, a special collection of Broadway and other theater and arts programming premiering on-air, online, and on YouTube in May and June. Curated especially for theater lovers, the line-up raises the curtain with Great Performances’ “Broadway’s Best” and includes programs from ALL ARTS, American Masters, and more.
Great Performances: Hamlet tells the Bard’s tale of family and betrayal in this contemporary production set in a post-George Floyd world. Directed by Tony Award winner Kenny Leon (A Raisin in the Sun), it stars Ato Blankson-Wood (Broadway’s Cabaret) in the title role and Solea Pfeiffer as Ophelia (Broadway’s Hadestown).
Also available is last year’s production of Great Performances: Richard III starring Danai Gurira (The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live).
Great Performances: Merry Wives tells the story of the trickster Falstaff and the wily wives who outwit him in this special production set in South Harlem.
In Great Performances: Much Ado About Nothing, Oscar nominee Danielle Brooks stars as Beatrice in this bold, comedic masterpiece.
Stream these programs anytime from the comfort of your homes between now and June 30, 2024.
