UPDATE: April 17, Wednesday at 9:20 a.m.: Police released the name Tuesday evening of the suspect wanted in connection to an Upper West Side attempted rape in February. NYPD is seeking information on the whereabouts of Justin Bido, 26, in connection to the attempted rape of a 15-year-old girl on February 14 in an apartment near West 63rd Street and Broadway, police said.

ORIGINAL STORY

By Gus Saltonstall

A man attempted to rape a teenage girl on the Upper West Side, NYPD said on Monday.

A 15-year-old girl was walking about 7 a.m. on February 14 near an unspecified neighborhood smoke shop, when a man approached her, police said. The pair then agreed to go back to his home near West 63rd Street and Broadway, where the man attempted to rape the teenager, according to police and the Daily News.

The girl was able to escape and did not require medical attention, NYPD said.

Police released a photo of the suspect on Monday and a call for the public’s help in finding him.

Isn’t that a mugshot? They don’t know, or choose not to release, his name? And they presumably know where he lives?

How can they not mention what neighborhood this happened at, doesn’t make any sense.

The story mentions that they went to the suspects home on West 63rd street. Hint: It isnt on Central Park West

Why would a 15 year old girl agree to go to an unknown man’s apartment at around 7am in the morning? Was he coercing her or what?

The girl is 15. You don’t know what kind of family environment she has. You don’t know if she was coerced. Please don’t judge and just express some empathy for the rape victim instead of questioning her judgment.

I don’t think it is a point. The point is there’s a predator on the loose.

Agreed.
Can we agree that even if she did, she doesn’t deserve to be raped?

Maybe you missed this part of the article: “Police released a photo of the suspect on Monday and a call for the public’s help in finding him.”

In any case, I only see one comment about the police there, and a handful of comments about the victim. There seems to minimal interest in this story. I hope the girl gets the help she needs.
