On December 31, at 7 p.m., The Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine will present its annual New Year’s Eve Concert for Peace. Started by Leonard Bernstein in 1984, this event celebrates the end of the year through music of hope and optimism.

This year’s program includes Mozart’s Divertimento in D Major, the world premiere of Voices of Afghanistan by Stanley Grill, and a montage of music from Jewish, Muslim and Christian traditions centered on the shared longing for peace, all framed by music of J.S. Bach and culminating in This Little Light of Mine.  Tickets begin at $40.

Our primary goal is to create a safe and respectful space where a broad spectrum of voices can be heard. We welcome diverse viewpoints and encourage readers to engage critically with one another’s ideas, but never at the expense of civility. Disagreement is expected—even encouraged—but it must be expressed with care and consideration. Comments that take cheap shots, escalate conflict, or veer into ideological warfare detract from the constructive spirit we aim to cultivate.
